Laser Gain Media
Aqwest routinely engineers and produces (in collaboration with ceramization providers) custom optical components and laser gain materials based on YAG, Lu2O3, and Y2O3 ceramics.
When doped with Yb3+ or Tm3+ laser ions, these materials offer broadband amplification of signals at 1 and 2 microns respectively, which makes them an enabling solution for amplifier elements for the new high-pulse energy ultrafast lasers.
Ceramic shapes include disks, slabs, and rods with dimensions over 100 mm in size. The ceramics can be also formed as co-sintered composites with doped and undoped portions. Other applications of Yb-doped sesquioxides include detection of energetic photons for medical imaging (e.g., PET) .
